Bennetts Dairies - Ross Milk Float

Bennetts Dairies & Farms, based at Lower Wick, Worcester sold its dairy business to Avonmore Dairies in 1992. At this time, Bennetts had around 25-30 battery-electric vehicles. Its last new electrics were a pair of these 1973 Ross 'Stallion' trucks.

Ross Auto & Engineering was a small builder of electric vehicles. A number of chassis were bodied for dairy work and proved popular with small, independent businesses like Bennetts. The ageing Ross, however, was highly non-standard in the Avonmore Dairies fleet after the takeover. Fortunately PFK 339M was spotted in 1995 among over 100 electric vehicles rapidly being scrapped and, upon request, it was kindly put aside and donated to us.

Preservation

The restoration and repaint was relatively straightforward and completed in 2011. Mr Bennett still possessed some of the lettering transfers and kindly donated them to us, reducing the amount of difficult signwriting considerably.
