YTB 191

There used to be many co-operative societies around the country which have been gradually merging over the years. The Ten Acres & Stirchley Co-operative Society (TASCOS) merged into the Birmingham Co-operative Society in September 1971. It then had 25 battery-electric milk trucks, earlier up to 18 electric bread vans had also been maintained.

Despite its Lancashire registration, YTB 191 was delivered new to TASCOS in 1956. It is very typical of the TASCOS fleet which standardised on the products of Leicester-based manufacturer Morrison-Electricar, also popular with the big West Midlands dairies. The merging of Co-ops continued so YTB 191 belonged to the Central Midlands Co-op when it was acquired by the museum in 1988.

Preservation

YTB 191 fortunately largely retains its original cab and bodywork. It awaits restoration into the TASCOS deep red and white livery.
