This book is an insider's personal view of the history of what proved to be the last all-Leyland produced bus. As such, it briefly covers the background history of the Workington plant and the reasoning for the Lynx's design. The book also tries to cover some of the outside influences, including the politics, that affected it and some of the schemes that were tried to cope with these.

The author, George Luke, joined the Resident Engineering Team at Workington in 1984 as an engineer, having spent the previous sixteen years at Metal Sections, later Duple Metsec, working in their bus design department and supervising overseas assembly of bus body kits. He started at Workington as the first line-built Lynxes were being constructed and although, until 1989, he had very little to do with the Lynxes, they were ever present. Due to office re-organization in 1989, he became the Principal Engineer for the Lynx body and was responsible for engineering all Lynx sales orders from then until the end of production in 1992.
