Our display halls
Hall 1
The Power Hall. Situated behind the admission kiosk as you enter, it shows how public transport enabled people to get out and about, plus plenty of insights into the operating and manufacturing sides of the industry. The Art Depot area contains lots of examples of bus company art and photography.
Hall 2
Situated to the rear of the cafe, Hall 2 contains our Battery Electrics and more buses. Don't miss these gems at the back of the site, including the largest collection of restored battery electric vehicles in the world and probably the largest Birmingham coat-of-arms, set in stone outside the main entrance.
Hall 3
Opposite the side of the Power Hall is our display yard and Hall 3, The Shire Hall, home to the running fleet. This is also where volunteers restore and maintain our collections ranging from immaculate to almost total wrecks.
Kids & families
For kids and families, we have a family ticket and our 'Kids Kabin' area has a selection of toys and activity sheets. There are also a number of interactive exhibits in the Power Hall. For the very young, we have a nursing mothers' station and nappy change facilities.
Opposite the miniature train station, there's a grassed picnic area complete with outdoor play facilities
More...
THE MINIATURE TRAIN runs all day on our main opening days from 12-3pm (subject to staffing). The train is operated by Elmdon Model Engineering Society and there is a separate charge of £2.00 per trip.

Cafe & Shop
In the cafe, hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, biscuits, crisps and chocolate snacks are always available. On event days, homemade cakes are also available and hot food such as burgers, chips and bacon sandwiches are available from the burger van. During the summer months a drinks and ice cream kiosk is open in the picnic area.
In our shop we have gifts and toys for the kids and an ever changing, massive selection of books, models, timetables and other goods, both new and pre-owned.
A small selection of books from the shop are available to buy in our online shop, click here to see more
Bus rides & event days
During 2025, subject to weather conditions we operate free classic bus rides every day that we're open subject to weather conditions. All our main event days feature more free bus rides and special timetables, see our events list for more details
Accessibility
The museum consists of two separate halls (The Power Hall and The Scania Hall), a toilets block and a separate building housing the shop and cafeteria. Everything is on one level and hard-surfaced. All ramps are compliant. A further building (The Shire Hall) is where we keep our operational vehicles and includes our engineering area. It is not intended as a display hall and gangway widths between vehicles may be impossible in parts for wheelchairs. Some of the vehicles are removed on our Event Days and the hall is then accessible.
On Event Days, we offer bus rides on our exhibits but you will not be surprised to learn that these buses were not designed for wheelchair access. For those with some mobility, staff will be pleased to advise you which buses have lower steps and easier access.

Dogs
We are a dog friendly site but, with bus and miniature railway movements, dogs should be kept on short leads please for safety. Dogs are not allowed in the café apart from assistance dogs, there is plenty of seating outside to enjoy refreshments. Dogs may be allowed on the bus rides at the drivers/conductors discretion. Dogs must always be carried on the bus and sit on the owners lap
